We will be going to various offices as a group of acupuncturists and our lobbyist, Dan Delaney. You may speak, deliver information packets or just tag along. For those of you who have not done this before, it is interesting, fun and educational. Here’s a way to make a difference. There will be some instruction before we proceed to the offices of legislators.
Please RSVP to let us know if you can attend
The Goals are:
- Educate about acupuncture and Chinese medicine including our expertiseand education.
- Our role in solving the opioid crisis and the need for acupuncture to be a first line treatment rather than a last resort.
- Advocate for bills we will be introducing in the next session: “An Act Relative to the Safe Treatment of Pain”, (dry needling issue), and “ An Act Relative to the Practice of Acupuncture” ( for insurance coverage)
The objective of these meetings is to educate and inform legislators about the purpose and value of acupuncture and East Asian medicine as well as to educate them of the public health risks posed by non-acupuncturists using acupuncture needles.
This is a significant opportunity for acupuncturists to make our presence known to the legislators. We want to educate the legislators so that they will support our bills when they are introduced in January.
Here's how to schedule with your own legislator:
Locate and call both of your legislators.
State your name, that you are one of their constituents, and ask for a 10-minute appointment to speak with them about bills that will be reintroduced: "An Act Relative to the Safe Treatment of Pain" and "An Act Relative to the Practice of Acupuncture" . It is often more beneficial to meet with the legislative staff, so don’t worry if that is your contact.
If you can’t come, call your legislator and tell them about your concerns, the bills we will be proposing.
Come join the ASM and add your energy to the wave of excitement about Acupuncture and East Asian Medicine. Help us to create a "buzz" and connect with legislators at the State House! Let's think about how powerful it will be to have acupuncturists meeting individually with legislators right before the new legislative session.
