Thank you to everyone who chose to attend our annual meeting and our continuing education offerings 9/22/19. We had a tremendous showing and look forward to growing our organization as we truly are STRONGER TOGETHER.

We need your help! Your ASM Board attended a number of town hall meetings led by Division of Insurance vice chair Kevin Bagan asking for acupuncture to be included in the non-pharmacological treatment of pain as covered by all commercial insurance companies in the Commonwealth. We were heard!

Senator Keenan’s bill, S604 is a robust bill: An Act relative to removing barriers to non-opioid pain management. You can find the text here: https://malegislature.gov/Bills/191/S604.pdf

While this bill is not just an acupuncture bill, it’s language reflecting that all commercial insurance companies need to write policies that include THREE non-pharmacological treatments for pain covered. This is a way for us to ask that acupuncture specifically be included and that this become law.

This bill states that no insurer should require preauthorization for these treatments shall not require a member to obtain a preauthorization for alternative/complementary pain management services identified by the carrier as necessary to comply with said guidelines developed by the division of insurance.

Thank you for choosing to be a part of the movement to break down barriers to evidence based non-pharmacological treatments for pain for residents of the Commonwealth.
