Classical Acupuncture Needling Techniques

We start the day with this class which is taught by the accomplished instructor Xiao Ming Cheng, LAc from the Osher Center for Integrative Medicine and Boston TCM. It will consist of a lecture, demonstration, and practice.

Learn How Your Mindset Enlivens Your Needling Technique With This Hands-On Class

This is for all acupuncture practitioners who wish to elevate their skills to the next level

  • You will gain mastery of classical Chinese acupuncture needle techniques
  • The first 2 hours is a lecture that includes the history of traditional Chinese needle techniques, managing Qi movement, and the application of specialty techniques in clinical practice
  • The second 2 hours will provide a demonstration of each technique; then students will practice hand and needle techniques on each other under the guidance of the instructor

    • Training exercises (hand training and Qi training)
    • Skilled controlling needle
    • Needle selection according to disease, technique, points, etc.
    • Palpation re Qi movement, nature of point (xu, shi), etc.
    • Needle Insertion and manipulation techniques
    • Accidents and how to manage
    • Obtaining De Qi
    • Methods of needling for reinforcing and reducing Qi
    • Combining of needling methods
    • Opening the Flow of Channel Qi Technique

    Xiao Ming Cheng, LAc MA – Instructor

    Xiao Ming Cheng, LAc is a senior TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) practitioner who has worked for over 33 years in the TCM and Acupuncture field; he started his teaching life as a director of the Acupuncture Department in 1980 in Zhejiang University of TCM. After 1991, Xiaoming was invited to teach TCM, Acupuncture and oriental philosophy at the New England School of Acupuncture. He is also a member of the team that teaches the Acupuncture course for physicians through the Dept. of Continuing Medical Education at Harvard Medical School.

    Xiaoming got his OMD degree after he graduated from Shanghai University of TCM, and got his license Acupuncture certification by NCCAOM and COA of Massachusetts. He is a guest Professor of Shanghai University of TCM and Hua Shan Hospital of Shanghai Medical University. Since 1992, he has had a busy private TCM and acupuncture practice in Brookline, MA. Xiaoming Cheng has already published three significant clinical texts in Chinese: Acupuncture for Emergencies, Scalp Acupuncture, and Acupuncture Pathology & Point Prescriptions. He has also published his first English book of acupuncture and moxibustion (an acupuncturist desk reference book).

    Annual Membership Meeting & Town Hall

    Following lunch we will have the ASM Membership Meeting –  where you will hear financial, legislative and other updates about the work the ASM is doing. Then during the Town Hall we will have discussions and time for Q&A.   This will provide a great opportunity to learn, build community and re-group with your colleagues.  This will be from 3-5pm.     A la carte option: ASM members who do not wish to attend the lecture can attend just the Meeting/Town Hall for free, either in-person or via Zoom.

    Your registration is confirmed once you have registered, checked “yes” in regard to the Consent Form, and paid in full (when applicable). You will receive emails communicating your registration status.

    Attendee Consent Form

    We require each attendee to read and agree to the Media Release and Acupuncture terms outlined in our Consent Form.  We are doing this since we will be taking photos and/or filming portions of the day.

    Goodnow Library – Community Room

    The event will be held at the Goodnow Library located at 21 Concord Road in Sudbury MA. We will have the large community room available to us.

    We begin at 10am including a quick check in. Plenty of free parking is available in the library’s own lot.
