Thank you to all who participated in the ASM’s Acupuncture Day on the Hill Virtual Event on May12th 2021. We are excited that over 60 people attended. Below are some key takeaways and recommended actions to help pass these bills!

First, we would like to thank our Acupuncture Legislation Champions Representative Smitty Pignatelli and Senator Eric Lesser for their consistent and persistent advocacy for our bills. Representative Pignatelli is the sponsor of H1179, (An Act Relative to the Practice of Acupuncture) referred to the Joint Committee on Financial Services, and Senator Lesser is the sponsor of S1458, (An Act Relative to the Practice of Acupuncture) referred to the Joint Committee on Public Health.

KEY TAKEAWAY #1: The Governor is willing to sign these bills if they make it to his desk, shared representative Pignatelli. Governor Baker is a former CEO of Harvard Pilgrim Healthcare and this sends a strong signal to legislators.

KEY TAKEAWAY #2: “All Politics is local”, a quote from Tip O’Neill, the 47th Speaker of the House from MA, that Pignatelli shared when our lobbyist, Dan Delaney, who asked the legislators what moves them and what was their best advice for us and our patients to be effective.
